Registration is now open for SEP-FEP 2015 at the University of Dundee, 3-5 September 2015. Please follow this link for information about accommodation, airport transfers, and registration options:

Registration is free for staff and students at Scottish universities (but you must register by email: see site for details)

For all others, the registration fee is £65 (waged) or £35 (students/unwaged) before 31 July.

After 31 July, registration increases to £80 (waged) or £50 (students/unwaged).

2015 SEP-FEP Joint Annual Conference: New Frontiers

The Joint Annual Conference of the Society for European Philosophy and Forum for European Philosophy in 2015 will be hosted by the Scottish Centre for Continental Philosophy at the University of Dundee. Conference support is provided by the Scots Philosophical Association, the MIND Association, and the Dundee & Angus Convention Bureau.

The SEP/FEP conference is the largest annual event in Europe that aims to bring together researchers, teachers, and students from different disciplines, interested in all areas of contemporary European philosophy.

 Abstract proposals for papers and panels are invited in all areas of contemporary European philosophy. Submissions that address the conference’s plenary theme “New Frontiers” are particularly encouraged. Topics include but are not limited to anatheism, animality, aesthetics, antiaesthetics, communication, hermeneutics, philosophy of religion, post-continental-analytic thought, posthumanism, speculation and critique, technology and media.

 

Submission Instructions

Abstract proposals for individual papers should be no more than 500 words and include author and institutional affiliation.

 Panel proposals should include a brief panel description of no more than 100 words, with participant names and institutional affiliations, and a 500 word abstract for each paper within the panel.

2015 SEP-FEP Joint Annual Conference: New Frontiers

While postgraduates can apply to the SEP-FEP general call for papers, the aim of the postgraduate panels is to provide a distinctive atmosphere of critical discussion tailored to postgraduate research.

We invite abstract proposals of 300-500 words for at least one general postgraduate panel and one panel dedicated to Scottish postgraduate research.

General Postgraduate Panels:  Topics may include any area in which the boundaries of European philosophy are being opened to new challenges whether in arenas political, environmental, religious or in the realms of communication, media and technology, aesthetics, hermeneutics, posthumanism, speculative or post-continental theory.

Scottish Postgraduate Panel: New Perspectives on Technology: The aim of this panel is to bring Scottish postgraduate students from different disciplines together in order to discuss new possible directions in the expanding field of research on contemporary technological phenomena.

We invite abstracts from Scottish postgraduate students from all disciplines on questions relating to technology. Particular areas of interest may include how philosophy relates to technology in the following fields: media, film, ethics, the body, new frontiers in literature and narrative, time, the history of art and artistic practices, politics and the question of independence.

If your abstract proposal is not accepted to the postgraduate panels, it will be entered into the general call for papers.

The SEP-FEP 2015 planning team at Dundee have organized free coach transfers between Edinburgh Airport and Dundee on the days before and after the conference (2 and 6 Sept.) Although it may be too early to book your travel, you can book your place on the free airport transfer now, and book your travel to coincide with the transfer times. Please take advantage of this opportunity – it will save you the time, hassle, and expense of taking bus + train to get to Dundee from the airport.
